vonzipper will release a new category this next spring 2010. the new category is optical. if you ever wanted to drop a prescription in a vonzipper, you will be able to soon in specially designed frames. keep checking in for pics, i'll post them as soon as i am able.

triple crown of surfing

the triple crown came and went the other week. we had big winners from our billabong/vonzipper family. greg long won the eddie aikau invitational in 20 ft waves at waimea bay. joel parkinson wins at sunset and is crowned the triple crown champion. finally, taj burrow wins the pipe masters against kelly slater in the final. parko unfortunately lost to mick fanning for the world title, but went down graciously to his longtime friend. congratulations to all the competitors for a great winter hawaii season. check out these pics from the billabong house taken right after the pipe masters.

Vonzipper-new project to be released spring 2010

vonzipper is going to launch a new and exciting category this spring 2010! it's been in the works for a long time but vz wanted to do it right. this new product will open eyes when it releases next spring. all i can say right now is that it's for your eyes and will make you look good, which is typical of vonzipper. stay tuned for more updates as i can release them.

Halawa Sample Sale

my friends and I are having a surf/skate sample sale at halawa industrial. this sunday, june 14th from 9am till 1pm. at 99-048 Koaha Way. take the halawa cut off, go past the panasonic building and go all the way up. turn right at the pepsi building and another right on koaha way, drive all the way in and you'll see the tents on the right. brands that will be there: oneil, reef, lost, dc, dvs, lakai, matix, vonzipper, element, nixon, globe and more. please spread the word to your friends and family.

Ash skate contest-Keolu Park

went to the first ash contest of the year at keolu park. sponsored by element, in4mation and 808skate. good turn out of about 80 or so skaters. i saw the 17+ and the sponsored divisions. lots of good skating. there was a 20 minute best trick contest for a free element skateboard. and the kids made a mad scramble in the adjacent baseball field for some free tees, too funny. next contest is in june at aala park.

Matix Headphones

i just received my new matix headphone sample, called "domepiece". they're pretty sick! i have 3 skullcandy phones: skullcrusher, hesh and low rider. the domepiece blows all of these away, suggested retail is around $80 and will land in stores on october 1st. just in time for the holidays. it has excellent bass with crystal clear sound quality. they're very light weight with gold plated tips and easy adjustablility. you can adjust quickly without taking it off your head. and best of all, they look great! check the pics.

Hawaii Ocean Expo 2009

this weekend my friends and i did a sample sale at the first annual Hawaii Ocean Expo at the Blaisdell center arena. the event was a real success! it was put on by our friends at VJ entertainment. the intention of the expo was to showcase anything to do with the ocean in hawaii. there was fishing companies, artists, surfboard makers, boats, standup paddleboards, housewares, outdoor equipment, etc, etc. there was also a huge section for the kids. next year it's going to be bigger and better for sure. attached is a pic of the "surfer's closet" sample sale area and another pic of some of the booths. if you missed it, don't forget to go next year.

Jumbo Karakuchi Art Show

Basil Sakamoto, aka Jumbo Karakuchi, held his art show tagged "Different Star" last night at the Blue Hawaii Kalihi Gallery. Presented by Blue Hawaii Surf and gurutoy.com. The event became extremely crowded with general manager of Blue Hawaii Rod Chmolack claiming it as the best turn out yet for an art show held there. A lot of pieces were sold that night as everyone got a glimse of an artist who's inspirations are the dark, underworld, combative and the end of the world type images. But, for the first time, we got to see a lighter side of Jumbo, with the introduction of his "apple" pieces. Also displayed was his collection of GI Joe figurines and some of his quilt work. Overall a great showing from an artist known to keep to himself. We're sure to see more of Jumbo in the near future. click here to see a slideshow of the event.

just got back from the ASR show in San Diego. the show was a little smaller, a lot of companies chose not to show up because of economic reasons. this was definitely the recession show. regardless, people still showed up and it was kinda busy. check out the pictures.
